Spirits have lifted in regards to our sleeping friend. Our friends welcomed their butterfly today after much anticipation. When they phoned us, we definitely made a visit part of our day’s activities. My girls enjoyed seeing the final transformation, hoping ours will do the same thing very soon. In the meantime I have found a great site with wonderful observations for those interested in this sort of thing. glorious-butterfly.com has done a superb job in detailing the who, what, where, when, why and how of this process. As they mention, this metamorphosis is a wonderful picture of new life. I am hoping my little ones will be able to use this experience of learning in their own lives someday. They have practiced how to care, be patient, watch and wait for change to occur with eager anticipation of a beautiful change. What a picture of what Christ does in each one of us! So, will our pupa change? (The eager anticipation is certainly not lacking.) Well, the verdict is still out. But we have learned something, nonetheless.
Oops… April 28, 2008
Claire and Eliza have a healthy fascination with dirt, rocks, prints and bugs (go little girls!), so we were thrilled when their friends shared a caterpillar pupa with us. It has been safely residing in a plastic bowl near a window for over a week. It’s covered, ventilated and has been unaltered since the pupa attached itself to a stick. Until now. They both want it to open and reveal the beautiful butterfly hiding inside. Claire just “checked” it and it fell off the stick. I am wondering if we will ever meet the butterfly…yikes. I guess we can always count on ladybugs.
You Win and I Lose! April 27, 2008
So yesterday, Jeremy’s plans to help Claire begin the creation of her very 1st pine car (for the Awana derby of course) were foiled. The workshop was cancelled. Bummer. He brought a disappointed little whittler home to think of something.
Little did he know that when we all decided to head out to the base, he would save the day. As we passed the Theater, we discovered we were 30 minutes from a special showing of Horton Hears a Who. What could be better…a Daddy date with his girls while I peacefully shop alone in the commissary? Heaven on earth really.
2 hours later, I pick up my handsome 3 as they are walking toward me on the road. Eliza is singing Rihanna’s “Umbrella” (thank you Daddy) and sacheing along to the amusement of passersby. Claire is full of details and slurping down soda…a treat reserved for outings. So, mission accomplished and we are driving home with some happy, overly tired girls.
Alas, bliss can not last forever, so naturally arguing over holding a grocery bag ensues and the insults & extreme comments begin flying. (Never! It’s Over! You are not going to be my sister!) And then, Jeremy and I began secretly giggling from the front seat as Eliza hurls her final insult at Claire with “Well, you win and I lose, Qwaire!!!” So there. I think she thought she had won something. Claire heard her correctly though and started to giggle. Eliza was pleased that she was perceived as funny and began giggling as well. And best of all, the arguing was forgotten.
What’s this all about? April 26, 2008
My friend has encouraged me to venture into the world of blogging. So, I am going to give this my little try and see if I like it. I do not intend on enlightening the world with my earth shatteringly wise ideas or suggestions. My life, family and everyday “wanderings & ponderings” will be reflected in the posts found here…hence my little name for our place in blogger world. As I watch my children I am continually amazed at the wheels and cogs turning in their little brains. I hope to capture some of that beauty and craziness here. Things like when Claire explains entering heaven as “God or Jesus puts yellow magic all over you and you pop in” or Eliza’s emphatic “You got believe it Mama, it’s for real. It just happened!!”, this being about any exciting thing she just experienced of course.
My husband, mother and mother in law have all asked if I write down what they say, so I will remember. So, this place is for me, for my family and whoever wanders our way.
